Today we are visiting Espanola Island. This morning is open time with a large beach and periodic Zodiac shuttles to and from the ship. However, the weather isn’t great. So, instead I will tell you about the cabin. I will compare it with my cabin on the Silver Whisper during my 2019 world cruise.

The Silver Whisper’s cabin was 345 square feet (32 sqm), where the Silver Origin’s cabin is 325 sqf (30 sqm). However, that number includes the veranda (balcony / porch), and while the Origin is a smaller ship, the veranda is larger. If you only compare conditioned living space the numbers are Whisper 285 sqf (26 sqm) vs Origin 248 sqf (23 sqm).
I was surprised to see the numbers, as I remember the Silver Whisper’s cabin feeling larger. I think some of that is due to it being deeper (but more narrow). The Whisper has 4-times the tonnage and carried 3-times the passengers than the Origin, so it can get away with a deeper cabin. I also liked how it had a “living room” separate from the bed. The desk size is about the same, but the tiny table in the Origin makes it more difficult to enjoy a room service meal. Part of that is passengers on the Origin are only expected to be there for a week or two, whereas on the Whisper you can be there for months.

During the world cruise there was very much a “decorate your door” thing amongst the experienced cruisers. Not so much here. Again, that is probably due the short cruise length. In addition, the doors and cabin walls are not as magnetic as the ones on the Whisper. I’m not sure if that is a deliberate decision or due to the Origin being a newer ship. Due to my previous experience I bought some high-strength magnets so I can mount my little name plate (giving this blog and my blog email address), but the Silversea-provided world cruise magnets would not stick on the door. So I have them on the door jamb.

Please excuse my laptop being open (I was taking pictures as I was typing this post). The cabin is comfortably sized for a cruise where you are expected to leave for several hours every day. There are no “sea days” on the Origin, where you take several days on the water as you move from port to port. I find it a little odd that the TV is right in the middle of the room mirror, but it works. The Origin continues the silver/grey/sage color decor from the Whisper, but with some slate blue accents (in the rug and on the tile entry way floor). I like it – maybe I can get Silversea’s decorator to come work on my house.

I’m not a real veranda-sitting person, but the glass lets in a lot of light. There is a sheer curtain for privacy but still allows light in. The light-blocking curtains work very well. Note: with the amount of light the color balance of my phone is losing it’s mind.

The closet is smaller than on the Silver Whisper – again, no surprise given how long a passenger is expect to be there. However, I like the Origin’s layout better. The door is in the middle, with shelves on one side and hanging space on the other. There are hooks in between where I have my snorkeling gear and Zodiac life vest. I’ll get into daily gear equipment in a future post.

I REALLY like the Silver Origin’s bathroom compared to the Silver Whisper. I want to take it with me for all future cruises. There is a single, wide sink with two faucets (remember, most cabins have two people in them). I’ve never seen that before. To the right is a faucet with a deep “sink” to allow for water bottle filling. The Origin makes its own water, but only the faucet on the right is drinkable water.
The mirrors, lights and bright counter top was really playing with my phone’s camera, so I won’t show you the rest of the sink area (I really need to learn how to account for such things). Just accept there are plenty of mirrors and storage shelves for your stuff. In addition, the mirror in the middle, right over the sink, slides open to allow for natural light from the veranda into the bathroom. Cool touch.

The walls are covered with a sandstone-looking material, with the far wall having a 3d wavy texture. Very spacious shower, with handheld and overhead water output options. I VASTLY prefer this shower to the one on the Whisper. Silversea is able to do all this because they do not include a tub. I am not a tub guy, so I couldn’t care less. But your preference may very.
Bottom line – I am very happy with the cabin. My only ding is having a better way to eat within your cabin.
We should compare your experience to mine on the ships I have been on….
Are you suggesting not every ocean-going ship has marble tiles? Outrageous!
