South America Grand Voyage!

Under Way Again

It is time to get back on the water, Cruiseboysians. I embark on the Silver Moon (built in 2020) to enjoy Silversea’s “South America Grand Voyage” 2022. I originally signed up for the 2021 version, but Silversea canceled the cruise two months before the start due to the state of COVID in the countries and ports we were to visit.

My World Cruise 2019 took over four months, and I enjoyed it greatly. However, four months was a long time to be away from home. I convinced myself to focus on shorter trips next time. Since my world cruise skipped South America, it seemed the logical next destination.

On 3-Jan-2022 we set off from Fort Lauderdale, FL, head along the eastern coast of Central American and pass thru the Panama Canal. We then circle South America counter-clockwise, returning to Fort Lauderdale after visiting many islands in the eastern Caribbean. For those of you new to multi-month cruising, the itinerary is broken into approximately two-week duration “legs” or “segments”. Not all the guests onboard are there for the full Grand Voyage, so each segment start/end port allows those who only want a shorter taste of cruising the chance to hop on/off.

First Leg (3-Jan to 19-Jan)
Second Leg (19-Jan to 9-Feb)
Third Leg (9-Feb to 2-Mar)
Final Leg (2-Mar to 18-Mar)

The Silversea page is here – note: once the cruise starts it is likely that Silversea will take the page down.

But that is not enough for this Cruise Boy! Once back in Fort Lauderdale I switch to the Silver Dawn (built in 2021) and enjoy her maiden cruise where we will cross the Atlantic to visit the islands between North America and Europe, followed by stops in Portugal and Spain. Once in Barcelona I disembark and will spend time with my sister and her family (who live near Barcelona).

Trans-Atlantic (18-Mar to 1-Apr)
Along the Sun Coast (1-Apr to 8-Apr)

I’ve been busy planning and packing. I’ll try to update at least bi-weekly as we get closer. Talk to you soon!

  1. Terrific to hear about new travel adventures. I am not sure I will have the students to follow along this time yet we shall see.
If you want a night before dinner send off, let me know…I will drive over from Tampa.
All in all sounds like a fabulous trip!

    • I greatly enjoyed answering your student’s (and fellow teacher’s) questions during the 2019 World Cruise. It would be great to see you in Fort Lauderdale, however I currently don’t fly into Miami until 8:30pm. In addition, for the World Cruise there was a guest dinner for the world cruisers in the hotel the night before we embark – so I expect something similar. I’d be happy to skip it, but I don’t think there will be any time to meet and I wouldn’t want you to drive four hours and not spend any time together.

      • Hi there again – It took me a bit to get back into the blog and the account. Opps.
I get ya on the logistics thing on 3 January. All good. Should you have time when you ‘switch it up’ let me know ahead of time and I can meet you then. Otherwise, I look forward to your new adventures.
My time in Florida is probably coming to close by Summer 2022. Back to Beltway….or perhaps overseas. Time will tell.
        Bon Voyage!
