Packing and Planning – 1

As you’d imagine, with a 3 1/2-month cruise coming up, I’m thinking about what to pack.  So, I went back and re-read my “World Cruise Lessons Learned” posts from 2019.

Says it’s Waterproof

Lesson 1 – I’m bringing the same camera equipment that I used from 2019.  Well, mostly.  I’ve added a waterproof camera in case I do some swimming/snorkeling (Sidenote: when searching for such things, “waterproof camera” is different from “underwater camera”).  I am bringing some large zipper storage bags to keep the humidity out of the camera when I set them outside on the veranda in the mornings to acclimate to the local climate.

Lesson 2 – I bought a new phone last month.  My previous phone was the one I had sent to me while on the world cruise, so it was time.  My provider is still Google Fi, thus I don’t fear for cell phone service as I travel.  As for electrical adapters, it’s a good thing I bought a great set.

Lesson 3 – Short of direct Bluetooth transfers, I still don’t know of a simple way to directly swap files (mostly pictures) between Android and Apple phones.  You can’t count on good access to mobile phone networks while at sea.  I will change my Gmail setting the day I arrive on ship

Lesson 4 – I’m bringing a second set of my standard Rockport walking shoes.  I still use the Darn Tough socks.  Both are so good for walking.

Lesson 5 – I’m bringing more general use button-up shirts for informal nights, while I will still have several polo shirts.  I’ll pack my prescription sunglasses along with my general-use and computer-reading pairs.  Since I plan to be in the Andes mountains for a few trips I will bring a sweater.

Lesson 6 – I’ve already taken pictures of my vitals items: credit cards, IDs, vaccination records and such.  I still have the great magnets my sister gave me for the world cruise, and I bought some mid-strength ones to holding cool stuff on my cabin door.  I just ordered a room key / business card holder – I’ll let you know how that goes.

Yesterday I received an email from Silversea discussing mask requirements while on board and current status of ports we are visiting. So far, we are go for cruise!

  1. Thank goodness about Lesson 4 – I was VERY concerned about your socks (sorry – just could not help myself…I tried to stop the fingers….just could not 😉
