Yep, the island so good they named it twice. If there were a dictionary entry for “Beautiful South Pacific Island”, Bora Bora would be the picture.

I’ve visited Bora Bora in 2019. The lagoon is amazing, with a natural entry to the west. There was another cruise ship here when we arrived, the Paul Gauguin of the French Ponant line. You don’t often see cruise ships smaller than Silversea ships.

What the heck, here’s a pic of the Silver Dawn in the lagoon. I still can’t get over how blue the water is.

We stayed overnight here. I didn’t sign up for any tours, as Silversea offered all the world cruise passengers a free day on a beach island operated by Conrad Hotels (Conrad is the luxury brand of Hilton). Walking onto the island we were greeted by a pit barbecue:

I’ve lived by the ocean my entire childhood (my father was in the Navy), so while the beach was very pretty it didn’t do it for me. Perhaps I’ve been spoiled by great beaches over the years. Lunch was fabulous (baked pineapple was amazing). However, I found the entertainment very high in the “cheese” factor. They paraded out a “queen” and performed “island dances”. This was right out of a Disney princess show.

Let’s just say that grass skirts really accentuate the hip movements.

It was a relaxing day. That evening we left for Tahiti where we were exchanging 250+ non-world-cruise passengers for 300 new ones. Over the next three weeks we will be visiting islands I have not been to before. Should be fun.
