Hello, Cruiseboysians! It was a simple two flights to get to Copenhagen, with a stop in Philadelphia. However, the flights were 4 hours then 8 hours, and I didn’t get a wink of sleep crossing the Atlantic, so I’m quite tired. But the timing of everything worked very well. I landed at 11:00, walked on the ship at 12:00, entered my cabin just after 14:00 (2:00pm for you civilians).

This is the first time I’ve cruised on Silversea without staying in a hotel the night before, and it worked, but I was nervous about missing the ship due to any flight delays. It all went well this time; but in the future, if I’m joining the ship after flying across an ocean I’d prefer to have a night in a hotel before hand.

During my Antarctica trip I gushed about how good the internet was since Silversea converted to satellite communication. However, I forgot that I received a free cabin upgrade, which included a “premium WiFi” package. I started this cruise in my standard -configuration cabin with standard-configuration internet. Um, ouch.

They offer upgraded access per device. I initially found this confusing, but then realized most cabins have more than one person, some may have a child included as a third occupant. You can get the upgrade per day or per voyage (i.e., the rest of your cruise), and the price of “per voyage” drops daily as the number of days left decreases. I tried a single-day upgrade to see what the difference was. Yeah…

You have to control internet access, or every passenger would be streaming 24-hour-a-day to their grand-kids. But more than a 10-fold increase?

My entire exposure to Copenhagen was the drive from the airport to the ship’s pier. So, I don’t have much to say. I will be spending a few days here after the cruise, I hope to have more information then. However, I found the nearby architecture interesting. Here are two buildings next to the Silver Dawn.

The first seems to be a call-back to the 1960s-era and the second to 19th century dockyard warehouses. But both seem newly built. This area has supported the shipping industry for centuries. I understanding upgrading existing buildings, perhaps these were designed to match existing buildings elsewhere? Maybe these were upgrades, but if so they have done an amazing job with the exteriors.
