Flamenco

En route to Lisbon, Portugal. Arrive on 11-May.

We returned to a festive Seville.  Turns out the Silver Whisper arrived during Seville’s April Festival.  In May.  Seems the festival start date is based on Easter, and since Easter was late this year, the festival was delayed.  Well, if the Germans can have Oktoberfest in September…

Because of the festival there were folks all around wearing traditional Spanish garb.  There were also horse drawn carriages whose drivers wore cordobes.  The women were wearing flamenco dresses.

Speaking of flamenco, I got to see two shows.  The first was a dinner show at Tablao el Arenal.  There were two guitarists and three male vocalists on stage during the performances – the vocalists also provide percussion by clapping and stomping. They asked that we don’t take pictures during the show, but the allowed it during the finale. My mobile phone camera struggled with the speed of their dancing.

Later that night Silversea arranged a show by a different flamenco troupe.  They did allow photography.  The ship’s show lounge was packed. I’m still learning how to take pictures of people on stage being lit by spotlight, but some came out. Here the vocalist was female and the other dancers provided percussion.

I enjoyed both shows – the restaurant show was more intimate, but the ship show allowed more movement due to the larger stage.  What’s that?  You wish I had video of each?  Of course, I have video of each!

Seville was awesome and I look forward to returning.  But I admit we got lucky with the weather – we were told it was often near 100 °F this time of year.
