Location: Nosy Be, Madagascar
Nosy Be is a small island right off the north-west of Madagascar. The port is the amusingly named Hell-Ville (named for French Admiral de Hell). I took a boat to Nosy Komba to meet some local animals.
Nosy Komba does not even have a pier, so we had to take our shoes off and wade onto the island. We were then escorted thru the village and the endless “buy our local crap” stalls to the animals. I understand they want some tourist money in addition to the English-speaking guides. But stop sending your kids at me with your magnets.
But they had some local animals and plants.

Anyway, first we have the black lemurs. The guides feed them to bring them out of the trees, which I have some issues with, but that did lead to some fun situations.

After the mammals, there were the reptiles.

Next: Maputo, Mozambique.
We finally had the time to catch up with your travels in class. Today is 1/2 day only before spring break starts (cannot wait for this next week off). Kiddos LOVED this page with animals!! Boa was a big hit as was the lizard “that blends in” (had a vocab lesson at that point…geez).
Thanks!
