En route to Brisbane, Australia – Arrive on 5-Feb.
When I arrive in Brisbane I’m starting my first Silversea field trip – sorry, “Mid-Voyage Land Adventure – Tropical Queensland.” I will be leaving the ship for four days / three nights and re-joining in Cairns. Essentially, I’m skipping several days of sea travel.
My agenda, per the Silversea provided description:
5-Feb, Brisbane
- Bus tour of Brisbane city
- Bus to Mt. Cott-ha
- Transfer to airport
- Fly to Cairns
- Visit Tjapukai cultural center
- Eat with Aboriginals
6-Feb, Cairns
- Catamaran to Great Barrier Reef
- Snorkel, glass-bottom boat, etc. at Agincourt Reef
- Try to not get eaten by guppies; or anything else
7-Feb, Cairns
- Tour Daintree Rainforest and mangroves
- Try not to get eaten by guppies (or anything else) as I poorly attempt to spear fish
- Explore ecosystem
- Get soaked by fire hose to remove all the mud I will undoubtedly be covered in
8-Feb, Cairns
- Ride Kuranda Scenic Railway thru Barron Gorge
- Eat lunch at Frog’s
- View rainforest via Skyrail Rainforest Cableway
- Rejoin ship
This is my first Silversea sponsored field trip of four I signed up for during the entire cruise. I’m not expecting Man vs Wild action, as I know the market Silversea aims for. However, I think my experience with this will heavily influence how I judge the worth of world cruises in general.
Note: while I plan to bring my laptop, I don’t know if I will be able to update my blog while in Cairns. So, wait five days – if you don’t hear from me by then assume I’ve been kidnapped by a gang of wallaby and send the Mounties. Or eaten by guppies. One of the two.
