10-Jan: The captain announced at noon we would be half-way between San Francisco and our first port of Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas Islands. So far, we’ve traveled about 1300 nautical miles. Since I’m a nerd, here’s the Wikipedia on the history of nautical miles. More immediate is that the captain said we should be on schedule for our itinerary, so we’ve made up the time lost due to the storm and medical return.

PS: the ocean depth is 4100 meters. Hopefully that won’t be important.
