Quick fact: Shanghai means “On the Sea”.
I enjoyed my visit to Shanghai in 2019 – a highlight being the Shanghai Acrobat show. Since we were docking in the afternoon, the show was the only available tour this evening, so why not. Turns out they were in a different theater – our guide said they used to perform in two theaters but closed the older one after Covid.
I understand why they decided to keep this one. The 2019 theater was a simple stage, whereas this has 300-degree seating with gear in the ceiling and floor. This is Las Vegas Cirque du Soleil stuff. There was some kind of under-stage image lighting that the performers could walk on and not cast shadows.
But first there were the chibi versions of the performers in the lobby as we entered the stage:
In 2019 they did not allow pictures or video so I did not bring my good camera. That was a mistake as this time the rule was just “no flash”. So all I have is my phone. It’s not the best, but you can get an idea of what’s going on.
Here is the motorbike video. It’s the longest, with four videos snippets stitched together. Every time they added another bike the crowd yammered, then lost their collective minds when the last ones showed up.
This is a great show. If you are near Shanghai I highly recommend.
You never know how these videos are going to go. I have over 400 views on one of last week’s Vietnam music show videos and almost 4000 of 2023’s Rio Carnival. I don’t know what search term finds these videos, but it’s got to be really bored.
Quick fact #2 – The greater Shanghai region has about the same population as all of Australia.
