Cozumel

We awoke docked next to Cozumel, Mexico. I cannot imagine parking such a large ship in the dark. The night before our Captain warned us that our view may be ruined as we were going to be right next to the Disney cruise ship Magic. It is more than twice the size of the Silver Moon and holds four times the passengers.

Next to Magic

Our crew tried to make up for it by putting together a lovely floral arrangement in the lobby, which we passed on the way to our excursions.

Good Morning

With my trip to Chitzen Itza cancelled, I moved to the Mayan Experience. It turned out to be a cultural village about an hour south of the port. I’ve found such things to be hit-or-miss, but this one was pretty good. We started with a blessing by a native Mayan speaker and then moved to the sports! “Pok-ta-pok” is kind of a mix between soccer and racquetball, where you can only play the 7-pound rubber ball with your knees, hips or elbows. The players were not amazing, but I give them credit for the paint jobs.

The cheerleaders were more than you’d find at your local high school.

We spent the rest of the trip moving from station-to-station sampling local made goods like tortillas with tomato/ground pumpkin seed topping, tamales and cacao (chocolate) drinks. We then had a buffet lunch with a presentation of different Mexican local dances.

Shake It

Not a bad day. I regret missing Chitzen Itza, but I don’t miss the 8-hour round trip bus ride. I’ll have to come to Cancun some time it the future and visit the temples then. They aren’t going anywhere.
