The Silver Moon is a larger ship than my world cruise Silver Whisper – 40,700 tons (596 guests) vs 28,258 tons (388 guests). Sure, they both have a pool, theater, smoking lounge (yuck), bars, restaurants, blah blah blah. But being larger, the Moon has some things that the Whisper just doesn’t have.
One of them is the Silversea Sea and Land Taste (S.A.L.T) program, which “focuses on reflecting your destination thru taste.” As we bounce from port to port there are many excursions sponsored by this program featuring local chefs. And they have the on-board S.A.L.T. Lab.
There are three components to the program:
- The S.A.L.T. Kitchen is one of the restaurants you can eat at each night. I don’t know yet if it, or if any of the restaurants, require reservations. The Silver Whisper’s did not, but they had less guests. The twist here is the Kitchen changes recipes with every port, using local flavors.
- The S.A.L.T. Bar is similar, but focuses on the cocktails and drinks. I’m not a drinker, so I probably won’t spend much time here.
- But, the S.A.L.T. Lab! Here you join the ship’s chefs and learn how food is prepared in each local region. I see me here a lot during the nine weeks of the cruise.
While on my world cruise there were many guest chefs who conducted demonstrations / classes during sea days. So, I think this is just an extension of that idea. I see many future posts coming from this program, so stay tuned!
