Hong Kong

Location: Hong Kong, China

While downtown Shanghai was a surprise, Hong Kong looked just like I thought it would. Shanghai has four-lane roads and illuminated buildings. Hong Kong is New York City on steroids.

Today is actually a shopping day for me, so not many cool pictures. I took the Silversea-provided shuttle bus (every 30 minutes) to the Kowloon bus terminal, which is our drop off point. There is a lot of construction around the bus terminal, including rather playful sidewalks.

I mentioned the bus terminal, but most of the Hong Kong I saw is under construction of one type of the other. The Silver Whisper is docked at Kai Tak, which is the old airport. Seems they have been wondering what to do with the property for 20 years, but whatever they decided they are working hard at it.

I am having a suit tailored and dress shoes made, so most of my morning was getting measured. I’ll pick up the shoes tomorrow (!!), but I’ll have the suit mailed to the South Africa port so I can wear it for the rest of the cruise. After that it was lunch time, so I went to Pizza Hut – not for the food, but more to see how it was different. Let me tell you, if your Pizza Hut does not offer strawberry waffles or lobster bisque, you are getting ripped off.

I had an hour to kill before taking the shuttle back to the ship, so I walked a few blocks to the Bruce Lee statue. It is placed near the Avenue of Stars, which has stars and hand prints just like the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
